About Quilt Studio 55
My name is Jacqueline Soper and I live in Scarborough, Maine with my husband Michael. I have taught many different quilting techniques at quilt and sewing establishments in Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts. Today, I hold classes and mini-retreats in my studio in Scarborough, Maine. As an artist, I have made over 150 quilts from king to crib size, including hundreds of other items such as bags, table runners, placemats, potholders, Christmas tree skirts, and other hand crafted creations. Several of my quilts have been selected for display at the Lowell Quilt Festival and other regional quilt guild shows. In April 2008, one of my quilts won a blue ribbon (first place), and another quilt won best of show. I have also been awarded several other ribbons at the Pine Tree Quilt Show in Augusta, Maine.
At the age of 12, with my mother's guidance, I began sewing clothes for myself. After I graduated from college with a BS in mathematics and education, I decided to start quilting with my mother. My grandmother's quilts were around the house while growing up. They were used for a variety of purposes, and used until they were fully worn with love. It was time to rekindle this craft in the family and replenish the stock, especially after years of practice at the sewing machine.
I have been quilting for over 40 years and enjoy designing and creating new ideas for quilts and related products. I hope you will browse this site, and pass it on to your friends. Feel free to contact me with questions or comments you may have.
